Let’s begin with an MLM lead generation reality check. If you don’t like talking to people and you don’t like helping people and you’re afraid to share your MLM business with your friends and your family you are doomed to fail. There’s an old saying that goes like this, “you have to be a product of the product”. You’ll also often hear the term posture thrown around and this is really nothing more than demonstrating confidence in your products and services and in your ability to help others with them.

The error that most people make is they confuse marketing with high-pressure sales. I would define high-pressure sales as applying emotional pressure to get someone to buy something that they don’t need, can’t afford, and never will use. In truth ethical marketing or sales is matching your product or service (solution) with a person’s problem or need.

If you bought a gas station on the corner you would have no problem letting your friends know what you just purchased. You would not demand that they begin purchasing their gasoline from you but rather simply inform them and invite them to pop over. You are able to do this without monetizing your relationship and without putting undue pressure to make all their gasoline purchases from you. Simply inform and encourage them to come over.

If you just began your network marketing business then your first MLM lead generation assignment is to make a list of 200 names of people you know and then began contacting them and letting them know about your new venture. When you contact them asked them to give you their opinion and any referrals of people who may be in need of your products or services as well as anyone they feel might be a good fit for the business.

In the first three MLM Lead Generation articles in this series I spoke about using local/warm market strategies but today I want to share with you some strategies that you can use over the Internet. The great thing about these approaches and I’m going to share is that they can be done for little or no cost.

Facebook - if you don’t have a Facebook account then I want to encourage you to make this the day you join the ranks of Facebook. This is an excellent forum as it has millions of members and these members each have specific demographics that they have identified in their accounts. With this information you can do a search perhaps join a group and then set out to start making contact with the group’s members. Many people that use Facebook will send out friend requests and then never make any effort to connect with them. This will not be you you’re actually going to reach out and make connections with these people in a meaningful way. In my eight day MLM marketing boot Camp I go into some depth as well as provide you with additional information on how to set up your Facebook account to promote yourself. Think about it millions of people and all you have to do is reach out and be a friend.

Interview leaders - attend conventions that your MLM company has and bring with you your video camera. When you get to the convention identify the top income earners that are present and then set out to interview them with your video camera. This is not a way to generate leads in and of itself however using these videos can generate tremendous credibility to people considering working with you. The fact that you’re interviewing leaders places you at the head of the pack as most people are very reluctant to approach the leaders and here you are interviewing them. This is also an excellent lead-in for our next strategy.

Video marketing - using a very inexpensive camcorder (something in the $200 range) you can create amazing videos that generates tons of traffic to your website and ultimately into your business. Now you may think that you have to be some kind of video whiz kid to make this work but you don’t. Simple video even by an amateur can have a tremendous recruiting effect on your business. I gain this is something that the pack only wish they knew how to do and here you are doing it. Your videos are promoting you and your brand all over the online video world. Videos receive the most traffic on the Internet of any content posted. People love to watch video.

Article marketing – article marketing like video marketing must be done on a consistent basis to be an effective mlm lead generation tool. What article marketing will do is it will brand you and it will push your Google ratings through the roof driving tons of traffic to your website. Now understand this is not a get rich quick approach. Article marketing will take upwards of a year to have any significant results and if you’re not prepared to go the long haul then don’t bother. But if you do choose to use article marketing then you can expect see your articles on the top of Google searches and not have to pay a dime to have them there. People using pay per click spend hundreds and thousands of dollars each month to have their ad sitting next to yours the cost you nothing.

There is one fear that you could have and if you don’t control it, it will crush your chances of success in business entirely! Before I tell you what that fear is I’m going to share with you a little bit of personal history.

Had The Background But Lacking Something…..

When I got involved in marketing on a more serious level I was in my 40s and I had a number of years of management experience, a college diploma and 22 years plus in the martial arts and six years in car sales. I’m telling you this so that you understand that I had a very rounded experience base to enter into marketing. Oddly enough I found myself very anxious getting on the phone and calling people that I knew to share my new business with.

Part of my anxiety centered on the possibility of me making oversights in explaining the services that my company had. Over the years I had become quite competent in my vocation and now being involved in marketing required me to step outside of what was comfortable and safe. I also believe that part of my anxiety may have been the result of my preoccupation with what other people thought of my being involved in a network marketing business.

A good friend and colleague of mine said if you’re going to be successful in MLM lead generation you have to be prepared to fish out of of all sides of the boat. I would add that as you fish out of all sides of the boat, do it simultaneously. In other words your marketing needs to be malleable or flexible using various strategies as circumstances dictate. Having only one or two strategies can limit your ability to recruit and be successful in your marketing endeavor.

Using Postcards - one approach that you can use for MLM lead generation is the use of postcards. Everyone loves to receive a postcard, particularly if it’s handwritten rather than a typed one. The intent of the postcard is only to pique the interest of the person receiving the card enough to go to a website or to listen to a recorded message. The website that you send the person to should require them to opt in order to see the video. That way you now have the person in your contact list and through e-mail can continue to follow-up with this individual. When the person listens to audio recording there should be an opportunity at the conclusion of the recording for them to leave you a message regarding their level of interest in what they heard.

Fire Your Boss Promotion – find an office building with a restaurant and ask the owner if you may post a competition jar on their counter. The competition would require contestants to write two or 300 words why they would like to fire their boss. The winner of the contest would be the one who has the best reasons to fire their boss. A possible prize might be free lunch for one week equivalent to $100 redeemable at that restaurant. The restaurant will be happy to provide this promotion because you’re buying $100 worth of lunches from the restaurant. You can choose to run the promotion for one week or one month it’s entirely up to you. Once the jar is full you now have a jar full of prospects all unhappy with their jobs and would make great candidates for your business. They have already told you why they are unhappy with their job and what you need to do to get them into your business.

Excellent Service – Do You Keep Your Options Open? You go to a restaurant or a store and you notice a person that is doing outstanding work. You let the person know that you have been watching them and noticed that they do excellent customer service. You congratulate them and let them know just how impressed you are. Let them know you have a local business and are wanting to know if they keep their options open to make additional income. They will always say yes and then ask you what you have in mind. Your response must always be – do you have a number that you can be reached at, I don’t want to get into it while you are at work. You collect their name and their phone number and then contact them back to set up a time to meet them and present your opportunity.

I know some people who have figured out a way….. this can happen anywhere and it would go something like this: someone says something like the way the economy is going we could all end up losing our jobs. You respond with – I know some people who have figured out a way to create a full-time income from home because of the bad shape the economy is in. The person that you said this to will always respond with really what’s that? You respond with I don’t have time to get into it right now but if you’re seriously interested, if you have a number I could reach you at, I could give you a call later. Once again you have a name and a phone number of someone who wants to hear about your business and you did this without receiving any rejection whatsoever. In fact they were the one that asked you for the information.

MLM lead generation can be very easy when you open yourself up to the marketing opportunities that abound. Some people approach marketing like a hunter heading off into the bush with rifle in hand. They have decided they are going to prospect and rustle up some new Consultants for their business. They can recruit as long as it their focused intent to do so. This type of mlm leader has blinders on to many of the situations that occur naturally.

Be In A Continuous State Of Prospecting

Consider that the idea of always being in a state of prospecting. You are sitting in a nice restaurant and receiving great service. You can leave the restaurant after enjoying your meal and leaving a tip and then go do your “prospecting” or you could take advantage of the opportunity to connect with a person that makes their living in the hospitality industry. If you receive great service let your waitress or waiter know you appreciate the service you received and ask them if they keep their options open to create additional income.

If they say yes then let them know you have a business locally and ask them if there is a number you can contact them and jot it down. Let the person know you will leave them something because you are so impressed with them. Tell the person you respect him/her and that you will not get into any details while they are working. Leave this person a Drop Cash Card and a $10.00 or $20.00 tip. – Please this is not a time to be cheap stand out from the crowd.

Another easy way to prospect on autopilot is to purchase motivation/leadership/ marketing or being an entrepreneur books from a discount outlet. Go to your local print shop and have them make you a self inked stamp with your name and website on it. (Do not add your phone number on it – make them get it off your website) Stamp your books on the 4th or 5th page, somewhere in the middle and on the fourth or fifth page towards the back of the book.

Marketing On Auto Pilot

Take these books and then donate them to your local library. This approach is a great way to leverage yourself because your reaching out marketing effort that you did one time and yet every time someone takes that book out they are going to see your website address. The purchase of your books is a tax right off and will be a source of new leaders for your team. This strategy is amazing because you are able to capitalize off the greatest leaders in our industry that have written a book. You are using their following to attract people to your business.
